LISTING RULES
Standards for every Local Roots listing.
Eligible businesses
Listings must represent a real independent farm stand, cottage bakery, home-based business, homestead producer, soap or body-care maker, plant seller, craftsperson or similar small producer operating lawfully in the United States.
Required accuracy
Vendors must provide a location where shoppers are permitted to visit, current products, regular hours, restocking information, accepted payment methods and an accurate photograph. Private contact details must belong to the person authorized to manage the listing.
Prohibited products
- Meat, poultry, seafood, jerky or meat-containing products
- Raw milk or unlicensed dairy products
- Unlawful refrigerated or temperature-controlled homemade foods
- Unsafe or unauthorized home-canned foods
- Alcohol, cannabis, tobacco or controlled substances
- Recalled, adulterated, counterfeit or stolen goods
- Products making unlawful medical or disease-treatment claims
Vendor responsibility
Vendors are responsible for every license, registration, permit, inspection, label, tax and safety requirement that applies to their business and products. Approval by Local Roots is not a legal determination or government authorization.
Updates and inactivity
Vendors should request updates whenever their information changes. Listings may be marked inactive when a business closes, cannot be verified or repeatedly displays inaccurate information.
Review process
Every new listing and vendor update is reviewed before publication. Community reports alert the administrator but never remove a business automatically.
